We, a family of two adults and two children aged 2 and 10 stayed
at the Hi-Surf Apartments in early August. The Hi-Surf is a high-rise resort
(20+ floors) and I was initially a little concerned in case my youngest put her
acrobatics to the test. My concern was unfounded as all the sliding doors had
bolts at the top so they could be locked in a slightly open position which did
not allow enough room for my youngest to throw herself off the balcony of the
9th floor! These sliding doors were the unit's most outstanding feature
encompassing almost the entire three walls of the lounge room. The view was
spectacular, looking directly down onto the beach and up and down, left and
right. My eldest was very disappointed at coming home to a view of the swings in
the backyard. The apartments were extremely roomy, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and
had all the expected paraphernalia, dishwasher, clothes dryer etc. The decor was
pleasant but a little lived in which I didn't mind as I didn't feel I had to
constantly panic that my youngest would scratch the table etc. The Hi-Surf has
free Austar cable, an indoor heated pool, an outdoor heated pool, two heated
spas, a small outdoor playground for the kids, a good bar-b-queue area and a
sauna. We did not hear any other guests but did see people in the lifts so can
only presume that the building was well soundproofed. The alternative is that
knowing we had small children they may have put us as far away from everyone
else as possible!
All in all, I would stay there again, if only for the spectacular sun drenched views. As we stayed
in August, heating and cooling was not an issue. We did notice that the unit we
were in was not air conditioned and I imagine in summer it would get extremely
hot without it. The theme parks were great, the kids only ever had to wait until
the ride they wanted to go on finished, no queuing. The weather was lovely,
early 20's of a day down to quite mild early teens of a night.
We are already planning out next trip in 2005 when the youngest is old enough to access a
resort with a kid's club so that we can all have a holiday. If you have older
children or children too young for a kid's club, you could do worse than the
Hi-Surf.
