This hotel is fantastic and absolutely perfect for families! We have two
children aged 4 & 9 and were very interested in a kid friendly hotel that
also offered a world class spa. This hotel fits the bill. From the minute
we arrived we were pleased. The hotel is breathtakingly beautiful, the
grounds are well kept and lushly landscaped and the staff were incredibly
warm and friendly. They served my sons a glass of juice upon our arrival
and it was so refreshing they ordered it at every meal for the entire
stay (8 days). Our room was more than spacious, very clean and super
comfortable with a great loft for the kids and a patio. The food was
tasty but your choices are bit limited. The staff offered to serve the
kids menu at any restaurant we ate it which was a big help. They even
baked a delicious cake complete with decorations and candles for my
youngest sons birthday! The hotel has a lovely childrens wading pool
for toddlers and larger pool with a water slide as well as a lazy river
you can float thru. The beach is a stones throw from the hotel and
incredibly clean and blue. There was plenty to do and see and the
hotel was full of families including some with grandparents! We didn't
try the kids club but say plenty of families who did. We also tried the
spa and its the most amazing spa i have ever seen. Its separated from the
hotel by a candlelight path and is operated and decorated in the most soul
soothing manner as to be well worth the $100 for two hours. They also
operate late at night and very early in the morning if you want to avoid
hiring a babysitter and want to just swap with your partner which we did.
Over all its the best experience my kids and I have had. They still talk
about it and its been a year!

My comments relate to Phuket, Laguna Beach Resort in particular. Our family (girls 7 and 17) found it very accommodating.
The Kids Club, while having only small attendances (last September NSW school holidays), was a great lure. Being Thailand, guests come from all over, and it's a chance to meet kids from different cultures. Activities were well planned and varied - craft, sporting, swimming, and even elephant rides. Kids could have lunch with the Club - good to make them independent, and night sessions were available. Staff were skilled and friendly. The pool was fantastic, and had a long water slide that was in constant use. There was a reasonable range of food (and prices) for kids, with snacks and light meals available all day around the pool. Breakfast options were the worst value.
Accommodation is four star comfortable, without being luxurious, but then you aren't going there to spend all day cossetted in your room. We needed the two rooms, though one child could share for a shorter time.
The big grounds, lagoon and beach front provided sufficient other diversions for the rest of the family for 12 days. This hotel is one of five, including the Sheraton, in an integrated complex, connected by both a shuttle bus and boat. We had access to the restaurants (at least 15 different eateries in all) and some facilities of all the other hotels (including the fabulous child free zone Banyan Tree for spa indulgences and golf). So you didn't have that "hemmed-in", "is that all there is?" feeling that you can quickly get at some resorts. And there is a shopping centre with a supermarket for drinks and snacks, and a few other useful places for retail therapy.
There wasn't much need to go beyond the complex, though I admit sightseeing wasn't high on our agenda. However I can recommend an island tour which has elephant rides and kayaking included, showing you some of the traditional life of Phuket. For older children and adults try the Sea Kayak day trip to fabulous volcanic islands off the coast where you enter through low, narrow caves into hidden lagoons in the centre. Not to be missed.
For us, it was desirably away from the bright lights and other activities in the town areas of Phuket, and gave us the relaxing holiday we wanted.
In conclusion, a comment on Bangkok. Not my favourite destination, particularly for kids, but we found the location and facilities of the Sheraton, with a great pool hidden within a tropical garden beside the river, very good for the whole family. Couldn't get adjoining junior suites as booked, but found the full suite with 180 degrees river views and ordinary room next door quite a good substitute!
