We have just returned from spending 7 nights at Daydream Island and found the whole experience enjoyable.

We were 2 adults and 2 children aged 3 and 5. We took the Virgin 1230hrs flight to Hamilton and only had to wait around 30mins to board our ferry transfer to DDI, which only took 30mins. We were welcomed with a refreshing non alcoholic cocktail before being briefed about the island.

Our room was a family room situated in the coral wing on the ground floor which had a connecting door inbetween rooms. The boys had a double bed each and we had a king size. Outside our rooms were 4 sun lounges to sit on. With young children you tend to be up early and into bed early so it was slightly annoying that the long corridor echoed quite loudly with people wandering home at night. The only annoying other thing was that the beaches were all coral, there was no sand anywhere in which the boys to play on, so that was dissappointing.

We had a buffet breakfast included with our costing which was the usual fresh fruit, cereals, and hot breakfasts. For lunch there were a few restaurants to choose from or you could just go the the Bakery and grab a fresh roll or meat pie. These however, depending on what you ordered could cost you $8.50.The pools were great, lots of them with spa baths also. We took a bubble for our 3yr old and both of their goggles which came in very handy.

Being a resort the food and alcohol was quite expensive but was of good quality. Most nights there was a buffet dinner which my 3yr old was free, $6.00 for my 5yr old and around $40.00 each for the adults depending on the night. The kids club was very expensive, one session was $55 for 2 kids either between the times of 8-12pm or 1-5pm.The babysitting was $15.00per hour for 2 children. Our kids only went to one session during our stay but they loved it, lots to do they said. There were lots of kids around, being school holidays but the island is big enough to accommodate them all without feeling overrun. There was a great kids climbing playground also. Mini golf cost $2! 5.00 for a around per family, which i found quite expensive.

There were the usual water sports like jetskiing which was $49 for 15 mins, banana boat rides, trips to the reef, parasiling, helicopter tours which all cost extra, and then there were the free catamarans and kayaks, fish feeding, snorkeling demonstrations, water aerobics, water polo, and beach volley ball. There was an activity sheet put out each day telling you what was on and where which was good. They also had a buggy to transport to the other side of the island(free) and a 20 min bushwalk over the top of the island that helped walk off breakfast.

So overall a great place to hang out and relax by the pools, it was the start of the stinger season so noone was in the water, just the coral beach was the major disappointment.

We stayed only 3 nights at Daydream Island and it was not long enough. The transfer were at awkward times so we missed the 1st and last days. The resort is fantastic and we had a great time, the pool area is great and accommodation great, weather is actually warmer than on the mainland. We stayed at Airlie beach before and it was much cooler there at night than Daydream. It can be really expensive for food and drinks etc so advise to take as much as you can with you nibbles, drinks etc. But loved it and would definitely go again but for longer.
