South Molle has seen its best days many years ago, but there are still some good points. Since the 2004 review here it is evident there has been very little or no maintenance and the whole place has a seedy run-down air.
Most of the rooms are now unused, and the beachfront rooms seemed to be the only ones occupied to us. Our room was really below par with no telephone or clock, and a very old saggy bed, however good A/C and fan. The bathroom door fell off the wall!! Other guests reported the same, and there was much swapping of rooms.
The best deal is full board, all meals, as there is a lot of variety, however hot food was mostly luke-warm. Drinks are average resort price, $5-$6, cocktails from $14.
The golf course is maintained and quite playable, even having par-4 holes. The bushwalking is very good, and true coral can be found by snorkellers. Golf clubs, stinger suits and snorkel gear are provided free.
Many of the activities advertised by this resort simply did not exist, with no kid's club, playground, massages, spa, jet skis, tube rides, archery, or glass bottom boat. Check on these before booking. The pool is good, with a 2.5m deep end. Watch the kids.
We were told by staff the resort will be renovated in Feb 09, and after that will become a backpacker island, so it might again rage. It presently suits those who want to swim, golf, bushwalk, read a book, have quiet evenings, and who don't mind a few loose bits in the room.
